Scarlattis ganze Vielfalt
– Christoph Ullrich continues his complete recording of all piano sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti on Tacet. Volume 5 contains the sonatas K. 177-205 on 2 CDs. As in the previous recordings, one can admire his imaginative playing. Any interpreter who does not allow boredom to arise for a minute in such a sequence of works must not only play in style and taste, but must also have an excellent sense of rhythm and colour in order to implement Scarlatti’s technical and harmonic innovations and make the infinite variety of this sonata work clear.
– In a box of 27 CDs Erato releases the complete recordings of the French pianist Eric Heidsieck, including all the Beethoven sonatas, Handel’s Piano Suites, six piano concertos and two piano sonatas by Mozart, Liszt and Chopin concertos and the most important piano works by Fauré, Ravel, Debussy and Roussel. Born in 1936, the pianist, a pupil of Wilhelm Kempff and Alfred Cortot, is a typical representative of the French piano school and has never really managed to achieve truly high international standing. Very often he shows himself primarily as a virtuoso and less as a serving interpreter. Erato’s advertising text, ‘brilliance, clarity and richness of colour’ sums up very well what you can hear in this box. (Erato 0190295187590) – ♪♪♪
