Die ‘Große Messe’ des 26-jährigen Mozart blieb unvollendet. Franz Beyer hat 1989 eine Rekonstruktion vorgenommen, die für die vorliegende Aufnahme benutzt wurde. Die monumentale Messe im schmerzhaften c-Moll, die eine Sopranpartie für die von Mozart kurz zuvor geheiratete Constanze enthält, ist ganz besonders anspruchsvoll und erreicht erstaunliche dramatische Höhen.
Die Interpretation von Christoph Poppen ist flüssig und kraftvoll, ohne bombastisch oder über-feierlich zu werden. Die wechselnden Stimmungen arbeitet er so heraus, dass sie den Hörer packen und vielleicht auch verwirren, so stark sind die Kontraste.
Die Missa Brevis dirigiert Poppen ohne Manierismen. Chor und Orchester sind sehr beweglich in ihrer Artikulation. Kraft und Dramatik der Werke wachsen aus der Musik heraus.
Gute Solisten sowie auf hohem Niveau spielende und singende Ensembles garantieren den Erfolg dieser CD.
The ‘Great Mass’ of the 26-year-old Mozart remained unfinished. Franz Beyer made a reconstruction in 1989, which was used for the present recording. The monumental Mass in painful C minor, which includes a soprano part for Constanze, whom Mozart had married shortly before, is quite demanding and reaches astonishing dramatic heights.
Christoph Poppen’s interpretation is fluid and powerful without becoming bombastic or over-celebratory. He brings out the changing moods in such a way that they grip and perhaps confuse the listener, so strong are the contrasts.
Poppen conducts the Missa Brevis without mannerisms. Choir and orchestra are very flexible in their articulation. The power and drama of the works grow out of the music.
Good soloists as well as ensembles playing and singing at a high level guarantee the success of this CD.
