The city of Katowice will acquire the former home of Polish composer Wojciech Kilar and set it up as a cultural institution focusing on his music and legacy. The house in which Kilar had lived and worked remained in his family after this death in 2013.

Born in Lviv (now in Ukraine) in 1932, Kilar studied piano and composition in Katowice and decided to live there. He is buried at a local cemetery.

Kilar is well known for his film music, yet continuously wrote purely classical works, chamber music, symphonic music concertos orchestra and choir music. He started in a later abandoned Avant-garde music technical.
