The latest Karajan Community Letter focuses on Hildegard Behrens, Karajan’s Salome in his only studio recording and stage production of Richard Strauss’ first opera success when he was already 70 years old.
Apart from a youthful attempt in Salzburg in 1929 and a single performance in Milan in 1956, Karajan only conducted Richard Strauss’ opera Salome complete in 1977.
