This CD brings together four chamber music works by the French composer Philippe Chamouard, born in 1952. The piece Polymnia, in which bright flute tones contrast with the piano and give the wind instrument an almost ethereal role, is followed by the very lyrical and atmospheric Madrigal for cello and harp. Very beautiful and enchanting in its simplicity is the piece Crystal for vibraphone, while Nocturnal combines the saxophone and the piano and portrays the wandering of a lonely person through the night, who, as if awakened from a dream, follows his thoughts and memories of the evening.
Les Oiseaux de Solitude is a short piece for string quartet that brings the very poetic programme to a close.
Excellent interpretations and a superb sound recording bring out the easily accessible works of Philippe Chamouard.
