Juraj Valcuha

The Houston Symphony has announced that Slovak conductor Juraj Valcuha, 45, has been named as its next music director. Valcuha will begin his tenure at the start of the 2022-23 season. He is succeeding Andres Orozco-Estrada on a post that has been held in the past by conductors such as Leopold Stokowski, André Previn, and Christoph Eschenbach.

In July 2016, the Teatro di San Carlo announced the appointment of Valcuha as its music director. He is scheduled to stand down from the San Carlo post on 31 December 2022. Valcuha is principal guest conductor of the Konzerthausorchester Berlin as of the 2017–18 season.
