American composer John Luther Adams (*1953) has won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for music for his piece ‘Become Ocean’, commissioned and premiered by the Seattle Symphony in 2013. The work is approximately 45 minutes long and its score is described in the Pulitzer citation as “a haunting orchestral work that suggests a relentless tidal surge, evoking thoughts of melting polar ice and rising sea levels.” Here is a video about the composition:
