French conductor Jean-Claude Malgoire died last night at the age of 77, Atelier lyrique de Tourcoing announced. He was born in Avignon and studied at the Paris Conservatory. He began his career as an oboist. In 1967, he founded La Grande Écurie et la Chambre du Roy, a period-instrument Baroque music ensemble.

He has done 150 recordings and conducted more than 7.000 concerts. He was very active and scheduled to conduct many concerts in this and in the next season, especially with Atelier Lyrique de Tourcoing, whose music director he was.
