Ignacy Krzyzanowski (1826-1905) was a Polish pianist, composer and music teacher who was internationally renowned throughout his life and was forgotten after his death. Laurent Lamy has recorded a second programme of music by this composer for Acte Préalable. It is the ninth instalment in the Chopin’s Disciples series. And although some pieces, especially the quieter ones, are somewhat reminiscent of Chopin, Krzyzanowski’s music is much more temperamental and immediate than Chopin’s, whose lyrical qualities his pieces do not reach. Incidentally, not all the pieces are attractive, although Lamy does everything he can to make them effective. He succeeds very well in the almost half-hour-long and quite demanding Sonata op. 45.
The recording is relatively dry and the piano does not sound particularly beautiful in all registers, especially in the upper register the sound is a bit harsh and glaring.
