After a homophobic hate campaign from the local media, the Hungarian National Opera in Budapest has canceled 15 performances of the musical Billy Elliot.

Daily newspaper Magyor Idok, close to far-right, populist Hungarian Prime Minister, published several articles claiming that the show could “transform Hungarian boys into homosexuals”, and that it promoted a “deviant way of life”. The negative campaign d to a big drop in ticket sales.

Under Orban’s ruling, homophobia has become an official governmental line.
