The Hong Kong Philharmonic announced that the Finnish composer and conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen, 66, will be Composer-in-Residence for the 2025/26 season. The appointment matches with the inaugural season of Finnish conductor Tarmo Peltokoski as Music Director Designate. He will begin his tenure as Music Director in the 2026/27 season.
Five of Salonen’s works will be performed in the upcoming season, including Castor, Pollux, Gambit, and the Violin Concerto. Salonen himself will appear as conductor to lead the Asian premiere of his Horn Concerto.
