Teatro Real Madrid has announced the appointment of Gustavo Gimeno, 46, as Music Director beginning in the fall of 2025, when Ivor Bolton’s contract expires. Gimeno is currently Music Director of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in Canada and music director of the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra until 2025.
At the same time the theatre has announced the appointment of Italian Nicola Luisotti as Conductor Emeritus, an appointment that will recognise his regular presence in the programme, in line with his achievements in recent years. He will continue to work in close collaboration with the Music Director.
