Gustavo Dudamel

Conductor Gustavo Dudamel is leaving Los Angeles to become the new Music Director of the New York Philharmonic. The 42-year-old Dudamel’s contract will officially start at the beginning of the 2026-27 season. As of the 2025-26 season, he will serve as the New York orchestra’s Music Director designate, and his full contract as music and artistic director will last for five years.

Dudamel has served as Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since 2009. He also serves as Music Director of the Paris Opera, a post he has held since 2021, and as music director of the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, which he has led since 1999.

The job in New York became available when the Dutch conductor Jaap van Zweden announced in Sept. 2021.
