Franz Schubert: Streichquartett Nr. 13 op. 29 D. 804 (Rosamunde); Maja Solveig Kjelstrup Ratkje: String Quartet No. 1 (Tale of Lead and Light); Benjamin Britten: String Quartett No. 2 in C major, Op. 36; Joseph Haydn: Streichquartett op. 76/3 (Emperor); Engegard Quartet; 1 Blu-ray audio / 1 SACD 2L-105-SABD; 2013/14 (o.A.)

So klar, so natürlich, so greifbar….

Es folgt Maja Solveig Kjelstrup Ratkjes ‘Tale of Lead and Light’, eine Komposition, über die die 1973 geborene Komponistin sagt: « The backdrop for this commission was to complement music by the great Ludwig van Beethoven. (..) When I was in the middle of writing this piece something horrible happened in my neighborhood. A bomb exploded in Oslo and a killer shot teenagers on an island summer camp. My nation’s reputation as a peaceful country to live in was drastically and forever changed. It was hard to compose. Papers and online media were soon filled with horrible pictures from the events. The lead-coloured skies being a recurring sight. The ambiguity in the title reflects both hope and dread. Beethoven’s light shines through, strong and full of life! » – … »full of life », ein etwas nervöses Leben, wie man hört.

Very transparent and clear performances of four quartets from four centuries. The Engegard Quartet plays with great intensity. The sound of the high definition recording is gorgeous, the listener being very close to the musicians.
