Zwei Messen und etliche Psalmen hat der 1736 sechsundzwanzigjährig verstorbene Giovanni Battista Pergolesi hinterlassen. Die Missa Romana entstand im Jahr 1734. Sie wurde später als Missa Romana bezeichnet, weil sie in Rom aufgeführt wurde.

Die Interpretation dieser Messe wie auch des Dixit Dominus ist über jeden Tadel erhaben: Das Ensemble liefert eine solide, ausgewogene Interpretation die sowohl das sinnliche wie das repräsentative Element der Kompositionen hervorzuheben weiß. Der Kammerchor Stuttgart und das Barockorchester Stuttgart bieten unter Frieder Bernius eine seidig glänzende Darbietung, die den Werken aufs Beste zu Gesicht steht. Die solistischen Einlagen sind weniger überzeugend, jedoch annehmbar.

The interpretation of this mass as well as the Dixit Dominus is beyond reproach: The ensemble delivers a solid, balanced interpretation that knows how to emphasize both the sensual and the representative element of the compositions. The Stuttgart Chamber Choir and the Stuttgart Baroque Orchestra under Frieder Bernius offer a silky, gleaming performance that suits the works perfectly. The solo interludes are less convincing, but acceptable.
