The regional Orchestra Avignon Provence in France will suffer a serious reduction of its official subsidies for 2015. The city of Avignon is likely to cut subventions by 2,5 %, the Greater Avignon could follow the lead and the Region has diminished its contribution from 615 000 € to 600 000 €. The orchestra management speaks of ‘brutal’ cuts and has immediately canceled the New Year’s concert planned for January 10. The orchestra announced that the cuts will only affect the artistic budget. So other concerts will be canceled, since the orchestra has to save 160.000 € in 2015. The politicians probably are not aware that contracts are signed years ahead and that the orchestra is in a damned bad situation now.
