The planned merger of both of the symphony orchestras of Radio France will probably not happen. French Minister for Culture, Franck Riester, underlined in an interview with France Musique the importance of the four musical entities of the broadcaster, two orchestras (Orchestre Philharmonique & Orchestre National) and two choirs for the musical life in France. « It is important to say that we have an exceptional musical wealth at Radio France, a wealth that we want to perpetuate. (…) The musical ambition of the public broadcasting is achieved through two orchestras, a Maîtrise and a choir. » While the Minister, who will present his project for public broadcasting next autumn, stressed that there must be « economies, transformations », the very existence of these four groups is for him « fundamental, and must be part of a promising future ».
