The French-Lebanese stage director and since 2018 director of the Aix-en-Provence Festival Pierre Audi died suddenly in Beijing, where he was for a revival of one of his productions. He was 67 years old.

A lover of contemporary music and Baroque opera, Audi founded in his youth the experimental Almeida Theater in London and directed for 30 years the Dutch National Opera, a decade long also the Holland Festival in Amsterdam and since September 2018 he was the general director of the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, a responsibility he shared with that of artistic director of the Park Avenue Armory in New York.
