There are rumours that French label Timpani, specialising in French music, slipped into insolvency. This is not the case, we have been informed by the owner Stéphane Topakian who founded the label in 1990.

In a phone call, Topakian said however that he is trying to sell the company, being old enough to retire and still believing that Timpani has a high quality catalogue which should remain accessible.

It is not the first time that Topakian is trying to sell his business, since a few years ago, one of the bigger companies was very much interested in buying Timpani and thus in rescuing the catalogue, but, as far as we know, the major problem was that for most of the recordings, the label had no contracts, which makes the catalogue a risky affair for anyone acquiring it.

Like the French say: Affaire à suivre.
