Stewart French a classical musician and filmmaker based in London, announces the launch of ‘Fly On The Wall: The Collection (2015-25)’, an online exhibition of films of many classical musicians.
French says: « Over the past decade, I’ve filmed hundreds of my colleagues using just a single handheld camera, aiming to capture the experiences that usually go unseen: the quiet focus of the studio, the charged moments before a concert, the creative flow behind closed doors. Now, 300 films later — featuring some of the world’s leading artists, labels, and venues — I’ve brought the highlights together into a narrated journey, freely available online. »
Fly On The Wall comprises 56 films selected from over 300 raw, behind-the-scenes classical performances spanning a decade, featuring 40+ renowned artists and iconic venues including Marc-André Hamelin, Angela Hewitt, The King’s Singers, Steven Isserlis, Alina Ibragimova, Richard Goode, Colin Currie, Boris Giltburg, La Nuova Musica, The Choir of Clare College Cambridge, the Royal Festival Hall, Henry Wood Hall, Ehrbar Saal, and St John’s Smith Square.
Accompanying each film is a written narrative offering behind-the-scenes insight and context, untold stories from deep within the creative process.
French explains: “As a performer myself, I’ve always been drawn to the raw, unfiltered magic that happens behind closed doors — moments of focus, anticipation, creative flow. With The Collection, I wanted to capture those flashes of vitality that sit at the very heart of music-making. »
