Once again, the Meccore String Quartet delivers wonderful interpretations. All four quartets, the clarinet quartet, the string trio, and, as a single movement, « The Interrupted Thought » offer a look at Penderecki’s oeuvre over six and a half decades. The quartet, together with clarinetist Jan Kakub Bokun, have dedicated themselves to this overview. As such, they offer the most complete collection, as two similar collections lack a clarinet quartet or fourth quartet.

Whether they go for the technically challenging as in the avant-garde first or second quartets or take the romantic touch even in the clarinet quartet, they find ways to serve the music so impressively that spellbound listening is guaranteed. Even a listener who may not be a friend of the music of the most important Polish composer of recent times will be taken on a journey that offers so many aspects from the music and the interpretations that this is the best persuasion to devote oneself to this music.

Perhaps it is because the quartet has so far recorded mostly works that are not the focus of widespread interest that this formidable ensemble is still little known. Technically they master all finesses, which is also to be expected in stupendous intonation. And their interpretations unfold before our ears with natural matter-of-factness, so that one cannot imagine any other interpretation of the works.

Clarinetist Bokun offers the solo part for his wind instrument with nonchalant finesse and technically balanced subtlety.
