In seiner Gesamtaufnahme der Schubert-Symphonien legt Jan Willem de Vriend nun die Aufnahmen der Symphonien Nr. 5 und 6 vor. Er dirigiert darin einen weitgehend entspannten, sehr lyrischen und eleganten Schubert, obwohl er auch, etwa im Scherzo der Sechsten, zupackender gestalten kann. Aber fürs Rabiate und kraftvoll Pulsierende ist er in den beiden Kompositionen nicht zu haben. Die Fünfte etwa bleibt durchgehend leicht, warm und lichtvoll.
Die Sechste beginnt naturgemäß etwas dramatischer, aber die Lieblichkeit dringt auch schon im einleitenden Adagio durch. Schuberts melodische Grazie und Subtilität lassen de Vriend jedoch nicht über die Stimmungsschwankungen der Symphonie hinwegsehen. Und so gelingen ihm wirklich gute Interpretationen, die vom Residentieorkest auf hohem spieltechnischem Niveau sehr engagiert umgesetzt werden.
Den Interpretationen entspricht ein warmes, gut ausbalanciertes Klangbild, das im Surround-System eine exzellente Räumlichkeit erlangt.
In his complete recording of the Schubert symphonies, Jan Willem de Vriend now presents the recordings of Symphonies Nos. 5 and 6. He conducts a largely relaxed, very lyrical and elegant Schubert, although he can be more forceful, for example in the Scherzo of the Sixth. But he avoids any racy and powerfully pulsating drive in both compositions. The Fifth, for example, remains light, warm and luminous throughout.
The Sixth naturally begins a bit more dramatically, but the sweetness comes through even in the opening Adagio.
Schubert’s melodic grace and subtlety, however, do not allow de Vriend to overlook the symphony’s mood swings. And so he succeeds in giving really good interpretations, which are very committedly realized by the Residentieorkest on a high technical level.
The interpretations are matched by a warm, well-balanced sound image that achieves excellent spaciousness in the surround system.
