A-10 + Liebesjubel + Flecha + Balada + 3 Lieder + Quatre Cançons Populars Catalanes + Amunt + Ufania + Esclat d'amor; Julia Farrés-LLongueras, Sopran, David Alegret, Tenor, Daniel Blanch, Klavier; 1 CD La Ma De Guido LMG 2164; Aufnahme 07/2019, Veröffentlichung 06/2020 (67'57) - Rezension von Remy Franck

The pianist Daniel Blanch is committed to make the work of the Catalan violinist and composer Joan Manen (1883-1971) better known. This CD is dedicated entirely to Manen’s songs. The interpretations show all the beauty of these songs, and the performers know how to present refined interpretations without depriving the music of the expressive naturalness that is her strength. Besides the soprano Julia Farrés-Longueras, whose generally well-managed voice lacks warmth, the tenor David Allegret is very convincing. His voice has a pleasant and clear timbre, it is impeccably led and stylistically confident. He also invests himself expressively, so that his singing meets the character of the individual songs wonderfully. The singer knows how to render both the vivid and the lyrical with impeccable tone, excellent diction and evident musicality.
The pianist Daniel Blanch is considered an intelligent and competent musician. He has also written the booklet texts, which are full of clever comments, hints and notes. His knowledge of Manen’s live, the genesis and development of the songs, as well as the environment in which they were created, is amazing.
The CD is therefore a discovery that is all the more valuable because Blanch is very atmospheric at the piano and the two singers are truly committed to this songs.
