Liedfreunde werden begeistert sein, denn die belgische Sopranistin Jodie Devos hat ein eher ungewöhnliches Programm zusammengestellt, mit ausschließlich englischen Liedern, mehrheitlich auch von englischen Komponisten.

Jodie Devos hat bei den Aufnahmen keine Konzessionen gemacht, um die Lieder sehr dramatisch und stimmungsvoll zu interpretieren. Sie gestaltet mit allen ihr zur Verfügung stehenden Mitteln, mit einer den ganzen Dynamik-Bereich umfassenden Stimmgebung, einer reichen Palette an Stimmfarben und einer dezidiert gestalterisch eingesetzten Atemtechnik. Ihr Gesang ist untadelig, hochexpressiv und kommt mit dem Klavierpart voll zum Tragen.

Der französische Pianist Nicolas Krüger spielt mit gleichem dramatischem Gestaltungsinstinkt. Sein klares, konturiertes und spannungsgeladenes Spiel ist auch sehr suggestiv. Dies ist der Garant dafür, dass von der Sängerin und dem Pianisten Gefühle und Stimmungen vermittelt werden, aber kein Pathos aufkommt. Eine wirklich gute Lieder-CD!

Jodie Devos has made no concessions to perform the songs in a very dramatic and atmospheric way. She shapes the music with all the means at her disposal, with a voice that encompasses the entire dynamic range, with a rich palette of vocal colors and a creative use of breathing technique. Her singing is impeccable, highly expressive and comes into its own with the piano part. French pianist Nicolas Krüger’s playing is equally dramatic. His clear, contoured, tension-filled playing is highly suggestive. This is the guarantee that feelings and moods are conveyed by the singer and the pianist, but no pathos arises. A very good song CD!;
