Zuzanna Koziej, Jahrgang 1993, hat bereits ein beachtliches Portfolio an Kompositionen aufzuweisen, wobei Vokalmusik – und hier wiederum die Chorliteratur – den Großteil ausmacht.
Aber es ist nicht die Fülle an Werken, die dieses Porträt-Album mit dem NFM Choir rechtfertigt, es ist die Musik, die wir hören. Zuzanna Koziej schreibt eine zugängliche Musik, ohne sich der Beliebigkeit hinzugeben. Die Komponistin beeindruckt durch ihre stilistische Vielfalt, die sie immer wirkungsvoll einzusetzen weiß: vom klassischen vierstimmigen Chorsatz über jazz-gefärbte, stark rhythmische Elemente, Aleatorik bis zu seriellen Strukturen. Dabei geht es Zuzanna Koziej stets um den passenden Ausdruck. Sie vertont nicht bloß liturgische Texte, sie setzt sich mit Inhalt und Kontext auseinander.
Music of Trust ist das Album überschrieben – Werke aus den Jahren 2016 bis 2020, in denen es um Vertrauen und Miteinander in einer zerrissenen Welt geht.
Vertrauen, das nicht nur die Musik ausstrahlt, sondern auch deren Interpretation durch den NFM Choir, das N-Harmony Chamber Orchestra (in der Mass of Trust) und die Sopranistin Aleksandra Turalska unter der Leitung von Agnieszka Frankow-Zelazny. Der fein abgestufte Chorklang, die klare und transparente Textgestaltung lassen Raum für wunderbare Phrasierungen, vor allem aber für ein klangreiches, intensives und emotionales Musizieren (beispielhaft etwa das Ostende Mihi in der Messe).
Zuzanna Koziej, born in 1993, already has a considerable portfolio of compositions, with vocal music – and here again choral literature – making up the bulk.
But it’s not the abundance of works that warrants this portrait album with the NFM Choir, it’s the music we hear. Zuzanna Koziej writes accessible music without indulging in arbitrariness. The composer impresses with her stylistic variety, which she always knows how to use effectively: from classical four-part choral movements to jazz-tinged, strongly rhythmic elements, aleatoric and serial structures. Zuzanna Koziej is always concerned with the appropriate expression. She does not merely set liturgical texts to music, she deals with content and context.
Music of Trust is the title of the album – works from 2016 to 2020 that deal with trust and togetherness in a torn world.
Trust that radiates not only from the music, but also from its interpretation by the NFM Choir, the N-Harmony Chamber Orchestra (in the Mass of Trust) and soprano Aleksandra Turalska under the direction of Agnieszka Frankow-Zelazny. The finely graduated choral sound, the clear and transparent text shaping leave room for wonderful phrasing, but above all for sonorous, intense and emotional music-making (exemplified, for example, by the Ostende Mihi in the Mass).
