Dieses abwechslungsreiche Poulenc-Album beginnt mit einem der spannungsgeladensten Werke des Komponisten. Seine Sonate wurde mitten im Zweiten Weltkrieg als Hommage an Federico Garcia Lorca komponiert, der von Francos Nationalisten ermordet worden war. Die Sonate erzählt von der Revolte und dem Schmerz des Komponisten, die sich im aggressiven ersten Satz und im finalen Presto Tragico äußern.
In eine ganz andere, charmante und sorgenfreie Atmosphäre tauchen wir dann mit Les Chemins de l’Amour ein, und auch die Cellosonate und das kurze Souvenir zeigen die für Poulenc typische Mischung aus Nostalgie, Lyrik und Verspieltheit.
All dies verschmilzt in der inspirierten Lesart der Interpreten. Diese schöne Hommage an Francis Poulenc wird ferner mit der Villanelle und einem Auszug aus Les mariés de la Tour Eiffel bereichert.
This varied Poulenc album begins with one of the composer’s most suspenseful works. His sonata was composed during World War II as a tribute to Federico Garcia Lorca, who had been murdered by Franco’s nationalists. The sonata tells of the composer’s revolt and pain, expressed in the aggressive first movement and the final Presto Tragico.
We are then plunged into a whole other, charming and carefree world with Les Chemins de l’Amour, and the Cello Sonata and the short Souvenir also display Poulenc’s typical blend of nostalgia, lyricism and playfulness.
All this blends together in the performers’ inspired readings. This beautiful tribute to Francis Poulenc is further enriched with the Villanelle and an excerpt from Les mariés de la Tour Eiffel.
