Am 17. Juni 2022 passierte in Fort Worth etwas ganz Besonderes. Yunchan Lim spielte Rachmaninovs 3. Klavierkonzert unter der Leitung von Marin Alsop und gewann damit den Ersten Preis des Van Cliburn Wettbewerbs. Die Liveaufnahme ist nun bei Decca verfügbar und garantiert ein Hörerlebnis erster Güte. Lim liefert damit nichts weniger als eine der allerbesten Einspielungen dieses Werks.
Was darin so absolut fasziniert ist die perfekte Mischung von bewegender Poesie und stupender Virtuosität, von totaler Kontrolle und Spontaneität sowie interpretatorischer Freiheit, von Detailreichtum und übergreifendem Strukturverständnis, von Spannung und Entspannung.
So kommt eine der kohärentesten und schlüssigsten Interpretationen des Konzerts zustande, die ich je gehört habe. So viel Rachmaninov, so viel Musik in 42 Minuten zu packen ist die Meisterleistung eines 19-jährigen, die in die Musikgeschichte als Sternstunde eingegangen ist. Und die muss man gehört haben. On June 17, 2022, something very special happened in Fort Worth. Yunchan Lim played Rachmaninov’s 3rd Piano Concerto under the baton of Marin Alsop and won first prize in the Van Cliburn Competition. The live recording is now available on Decca and guarantees a first-class listening experience. Lim delivers nothing less than one of the very best recordings of this work. What is so absolutely fascinating about it is the perfect blend of moving poetry and stupendous virtuosity, of total control and spontaneity as well as interpretive freedom, of richness of detail and comprehensive structural understanding, of tension and relaxation.
The result is one of the most coherent and cohesive interpretations of the concerto I have ever heard. To cram so much Rachmaninov, so much music, into 42 minutes is the masterly achievement of a 19-year-old, which will go down in music history as a great moment. And you have to hear it. What comes out of the speakers is simply unbelievable, believe me! Goose bumps guaranteed!
