Der Vergleich ist vernichtend: Quasi alles, was Marianne Croux, Coline Dutilleul, Cyrille Dubois und Guilhem Worms aus Georges Bizets Liederzyklus herausgeholt haben, Zärtlichkeit, Intimität, Charme, Nostalgie, Melancholie, Leidenschaft, Geheimnisvolles und seltener auch Freudiges, all das fehlt in der banalen und manchmal geschwollenen Interpretation von Justina Gringyte.

Doch man muss diese Aufnahme nicht einmal mit anderen Einspielungen vergleichen. Man braucht nur das Booklet zu lesen, um zu sehen, was fehlt. Dort nämlich werden die Lieder detailliert in ihren Stimmungen beschrieben, Stimmungen die man im Gesang und auch im ebenfalls uninspirierten Klavier nicht hört.

Wer also Bizet-Lieder hören will, soll sich die Harmonie Mundi-Palazetto Bru Zane-Produktion anschaffen und nicht diese hier.

The comparison is devastating. Virtually every aspect of Georges Bizet’s song cycle that Marianne Croux, Coline Dutilleul, Cyrille Dubois, and Guilhem Worms conveyed – including tenderness, intimacy, charm, nostalgia, melancholy, passion, mystery, and, more rarely, joy – is absent from Justina Gringyte’s banal and occasionally pompous interpretation.

But you don’t even need to compare this recording with others. You only need to read the booklet to see what’s missing. The songs are described in detail in terms of their moods, which are not conveyed through the singing or the equally uninspired piano playing.

If you want to hear Bizet’s songs, buy the Harmonie Mundi-Palazetto Bru Zane production, not this one.
