Italian conductor Daniele Gatti is the new musical director of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. The contract is starting ad hoc and runs for three years, until 31 December 2021, the press release says. The decision to hire Gatti was taken by superintendent Carlo Fuortes together with the mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi, who is the president of Fondazione Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. According to Raggi, Gatti is one of the most important conductors in the world and he will raise the prestige of the opera house.
Daniele Gatti declared: « It is an honour for being able to take this new position at the opera house of the capital city of my country. »
In August, the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, Daniele Gatti was dismissed as Music Director over sexual harassment accusations.
