Daniel Harding has renewed his contract as Music Director of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra until the end of the 2022/23 season, the Orchestras says in a press release. He has been its Music Director since 2007, following conductors like Herbert Blomstedt, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Sergiu Celibidache.
In addition to renewing his role, Daniel Harding (who is also Music Director of the Orchestre de Paris) will become the orchestra’s first ever Artistic Director, giving him overall responsibility for the orchestra’s artistic vision, allowing him to create new programme formats and to help build new audiences.
“It is increasingly rare to find that a conductor’s relationship with an orchestra not only survives more than a decade but also continues to deepen and grow. It is also rare to find an orchestra that has the highest musical intelligence and quality and the determination to continue to thrive. I’m thrilled to belong to this musical family”, Daniel Harding says about the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
The Swedish orchestra and Daniel Harding will embark on a major eleven-stop European tour in November, marking their special bond.
