Appointed in November 2019 as Music Director of the Orchestre National de France, 40-year old Romanian conductor Cristian Macelaru was to take up the job in September 2021. But since Emmanuel Krivine resigned with immediate effect in May, Macelaru finally has been named Music Director from the 2020-21 season.
In June, Macelaru agreed to extend his contract as Music Director of the WDR Orchestra in Cologne until 2025, a position he occupies since 2019.
