British conductor Daniel Harding, 43, told the Spanish newspaper El Pais that he plans a one year sabbatical as conductor to become a commercial pilot. “I have recently been awarded my commercial pilot’s licence, and in the Spring of this year I will join Air France as a co-pilot … so for the 2020-21 season I will take a sabbatical from conducting to dedicate myself 100% to flying, » he said in the interview.
Daniel Harding is Music Director of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and his contract has been extended through the 2002/23 season. He was Music Director of the Orchestre de Paris from 2016 until the end of the 2018/19 season.
