Members of the Queensland Symphony recorded a work fragment of young Australian pianist Kyan Pennell, 12, who tragically was killed in an accident on 31 January.  The piece is now online on YouTube.

The news release says: « The musicians of Queensland Symphony Orchestra were honoured to record this special arrangement of ‘Kyan’s Piece’ – with piano part written by 12-year-old Kyan Pennell, who tragically died two weeks ago.

Kyan had a passion for classical music, and taught himself piano just seven months ago. Unbeknownst to his parents he started writing his own composition before his passing, which his mother Amanda found in a notebook.

Thank you to Hyung Suk Bae for leading this project, to Craig Allister Young for his stunning arrangement, and to the members of the Orchestra who volunteered their time to record this haunting, yet hopeful, work.
