Norwegian composer, conductor and organist Knut Nystedt passed away on Monday. He was 99 years old. Born in Oslo in 1915, he was one of Norway’s most important contemporary composers. He is most known for his choral music, though orchestral, chamber, string quartet, organ, and piano works are among his numerous compositions.
Nystedt studied in the in Tanglewood with American composer Aaron Copland. In 1950, he started Det Norske Solistkor, conducting the ensemble for the 40 years up to 1990.
