The Opéra de Lausanne has appointed Claude Cortese, 51, to succeed Eric Vigié as Director of the institution as of July 1, 2024. The Frenchman was chosen from the 50 applications received.

A musician by training, Cortese developed a passion for the opera stage at a very early age, which he has been involved with since the age of as a stage manager at the age of 19, with a first contract at the Opéra de Lausanne. Later he was production manager at the at the Grand Théâtre de Genève. Since 2003, Mr. Claude Cortese has held various positions as artistic director at Angers Nantes Opéra, the Opéra national de Lorraine in Nancy, and the Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg
