London’s Wigmore Hall has awarded Christian Gerhaher a Wigmore Medal. It was presented to the great baritone by Royal Patron HRH The Duke of Kent on the Wigmore Hall stage last night, Wednesday 12 October, following his song recital there with regular partner Gerold Huber.
John Gilhooly, Director of Wigmore Hall, said: « Since giving his first full recital at Wigmore Hall almost sixteen years ago, Christian Gerhaher, together with his regular inspirational partner, Gerold Huber, has become a cherished member of the Hall’s family of artists. Christian is now recognised throughout the world, not least in London, for his outstanding musicianship in opera, oratorio and song; a wonderful interpreter who always lets the music’s poetry speak for itself. With this Award, we celebrate Christian’s commitment to, and belief in Wigmore Hall, and to the song recital as a concert going experience everywhere. »
