Abraham Lincoln Walks at Midnight ist das größte Chorwerk von Florence Price (1887–1953). Es ist hier mit anderen kürzeren Stücken zu hören.

Im vertonten Gedicht betrachtet Lincoln die moderne Welt mit Bestürzung. Die choralartigen Passagen und das fugierte Finale verleihen der gut 20 Minuten dauernden Kantate in Verbindung mit der Verwendung von Spirituals einen meditativen Charakter.

Das restliche Programm ist leicht und beschwingt und wird, genau wie die Kantate, vorzüglich dargeboten.

‘Abraham Lincoln Walks at Midnight’ is Florence Price’s (1887–1953) largest choral work. It can be heard here alongside other, shorter pieces.

In the poem set to music, Lincoln views the modern world with dismay. The choral passages and fugal finale, combined with the use of spirituals, give the 20-minute cantata a meditative character.

The rest of the program is light and lively, and like the cantata, it is performed excellently.
