Emotionen, Melancholie, Intimität, dazu ab und zu ein Hauch von Traurigkeit, und schon haben wir ein romantisches Album mit allen Chopin-Walzern, würdig interpretiert von Alberto Nones, der jedes Merkmal der Romantik und den gedämpften Ton der Kompositionen respektiert.
Wo andere (Zimerman etwa) aus diesem Zyklus ein blendendes Feuerwerk gemacht haben und andere sich strikt auf die Noten begrenzt haben (Pollini, Weissenberg) ist Nones’ Spiel primär vom Musikalischen bestimmt, genau das, was Alfred Cortot als das Maß aller Dinge für eine gute Chopin-Interpretation bezeichnete, eine perfekte Mischung, gerade kantabel genug, um nicht süß zu wirken, so lebendig und, insbesondere in der Phrasierung, den Farben und den dramatischen Nuancen so phantasievoll, so dynamisch und spannungsvoll, dass die nötige Sensibilität erhalten bleibt und zeigt, dass Chopin auch am Walzerklavier immer noch der Mensch Chopin war, mit dem vollen Background seines nicht einfachen Lebens.
Natürlich gibt es unzählige Aufnahmen dieser Werke, aber diese ist technisch und künstlerisch absolut ehrlich.
Emotion, melancholy, intimacy, with an occasional touch of sadness, and we have a romantic album with all of Chopin’s waltzes, worthily interpreted by Alberto Nones, who respects every characteristic of Romanticism and the subdued tone of the compositions.
Where others (Zimerman, for example) have turned this cycle into a dazzling firework display, and others have limited themselves strictly to the notes (Pollini, Weissenberg), Nones’ playing is determined above all by the musical, precisely what Alfred Cortot described as the measure of all things for a good Chopin interpretation, a perfect blend, just cantabile enough, just cantabile enough not to sound sweet, so lively and especially in the phrasing, the colors and the dramatic nuances, so imaginative, so dynamic and full of tension that the necessary sensitivity is retained and shows that Chopin was still the man Chopin at the waltz piano, with the full background of his not easy life.
Of course, there are countless recordings of these works, but this one is technically and artistically absolutely honest.
