Ukraine-born and London-based pianist Evelina De Lain has set a world record for the highest ever classical concert, performing a 90-minute program in the Himalayas, India. She and her team took her grand piano 5000m up a Himalayan mountain pass to set the world record. The performance, dubbed Concert in the Clouds, raised money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
De Lain, who undertook fourteen years of extensive physical therapy to regain movement in her hands after a repetitive strain injury in 2005, said: “I would never in a million years ever think I’d play classical piano again let alone play the highest classical concert. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done but I’m not one to shy away from a challenge, and it was such an honour to be asked to play my music in the clouds. »
