Bramwell Tovey will become the Calgary Opera’s new Artistic Director beginning in January 2019. Tovey was Music Director of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra from 2000 until 2018 and he is now the company’s Music Director Emeritus. He is also the Principal Conductor of the BBC Concert Orchestra in London, England, as well as Artistic Advisor of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra. At the Boston University’s College of Fine Arts the ever so active Tovey is Associate Professor of Music and Director of Orchestral Activities.
His association with Calgary Opera dates back to 1994 when he conducted Mozart’s The Magic Flute.He returned several times, most notably to conduct the world premiere of his own composition The Inventor in 2011.
