Gewidmet ist dieses Album der Sammlerin, Mäzenin und Clavieristin Sara Levy (1761-1854), die in ihrem Berliner Salon intellektuelle und musikalische Größen empfing und mit ihnen musizierte. Auf diesen Spuren wandeln die Bratschistin Francesca Venturi Ferriolo und das Ensemble Salon Violet. Die Interpretationen sind bieder und trocken, genau wie das nur korrekte Spiel des Salon Violet.
Wohlgemerkt, das alles ist nicht wirklich schlecht, aber mittelmäßige Werke brauchen nun einmal hochkarätige und vor allem frei spielende Interpreten, um der Musik Leben einzuhauchen. Hier sind wir aber eher bei einem recht akademischem Spiel ohne Risiken, und das ist eindeutig zu wenig.
This album is dedicated to the collector, patron and pianist Sara Levy (1761-1854), who entertained and played music with intellectual and musical greats in her Berlin salon. Following in her footsteps, violist Francesca Venturi Ferriolo and the ensemble Salon Violet present solo works for viola and harpsichord. The interpretations are bland and dry, as is Salon Violet’s merely correct playing.
None of this is really bad, but mediocre works need first-rate and, above all, free-playing interpreters to breathe life into the music. Here, however, we are left with a rather academic, risk-free performance, and that is clearly not enough.
