The death has been announced of Belgian composer Philippe Boesmans. Born in 1936 in he was 85 years old. Philippe Boesmans studied piano at the Royal Conservatory of Liège. As a composer, Philippe Boesmans is self-taught. His first compositions date from 1960, after contacts with Pierre Froidebise, Henri Pousseur, Célestin Deliège and André Souris spurred him on. Since 1985 he has been the house composer of the Brussels opera La Monnaie, on whose behalf he has composed several operas. He had a close collaboration with the director Luc Bondy, who adapted four operas for him and subsequently staged the world premieres.
