Was hätte Johann Sebastian Bach wohl an großen Chorwerken nicht geschrieben, wenn der Landgraf von Hessen-Darmstadt 1723 seinen Kapellmeister Christoph Graupner freigegeben hätte und dieser Thomaskantor in Leipzig geworden wäre, und nicht Johann Sebastian Bach. Graupner war in der Tat die erste Wahl des Leipziger Stadtrats, und nur weil er absagen musste, kam Bach als zweite Wahl zu dem Posten.
Diesem Christoph Graupner, einem äußerst phantasievollen Komponisten des Spätbarocks ist ein neues Gramola-Album gewidmet. Das Pandolfis Consort präsentiert mit der österreichischen Sopranistin Lisa Rombach drei der mehr als 1400 Kirchenkantaten von Christoph Graupner. Als Zwischenmusiken werden mit Auszügen aus Entrata per la musica di tavola in g-Moll GWV 468 und der Sonata in g-Moll GWV 724 zwei Werke aus dem instrumentalen Kammermusikschatz Graupners zu Gehör gebracht.
Die angenehm leuchtende, einfühlsame Stimme der Sopranistin Lisa Rombach ist ein Gewinn für die Arien, und das Instrumentalspiel ist exzellent, bestens ausbalanciert sowie hörbar inspiriert und kraftvoll. Für jeden Liebhaber von Barockmusik ist dies ein Leckerbissen.
What great choral works might Johann Sebastian Bach have written if the Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt had released his Kapellmeister Christoph Graupner in 1723 and Graupner had become Thomaskantor in Leipzig instead of Johann Sebastian Bach? Graupner was in fact the first choice of the Leipzig City Council, and it was only because he had to decline that Bach became the second choice for the post.
This new Gramola album is dedicated to Christoph Graupner, an extremely imaginative composer of the late Baroque period. The Pandolfis Consort, together with Austrian soprano Lisa Rombach, presents three of Christoph Graupner’s more than 1,400 church cantatas. As interludes, excerpts from Entrata per la musica di tavola in G minor GWV 468 and the Sonata in G minor GWV 724, two works from Graupner’s treasure trove of instrumental chamber music, are performed.
The pleasantly luminous, sensitive voice of soprano Lisa Rombach is a boon to the arias, and the instrumental playing is excellent, perfectly balanced, audibly inspired, and powerful. This is a treat for every lover of Baroque music.
