Australian conductor Richard Gill died from cancer on Sunday in Sidney. He was 76. Gill was the founding conductor of the Strathfield Symphony Orchestra, and the founding artistic director of the Victorian. He also was artistic director and chief conductor of the Canberra Symphony, director of chorus at Opera Australia and musical director of the Sydney Chamber Choir. He was a respected teacher, notably at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
