18-year-old Japanese violinist Ayana Tsuji has been awarded the first prize at the 2016 Montreal International Musical Competition. Tsuji, a student at the Toho Gakuen School of Music, won already second prize at the Seoul International Music Competition. She also won several special prizes in Montreal.

Bomsori Kim, 26, from South Korea, was awarded the second prize as well as the People’s Choice Award offered by Radio-Canada. The third prize was awarded to the youngest violinist at the competition, 17-year-old Minami Yoshida, from Japan.

Winners were selected by a jury comprising Pierre Amoyal (France), Boris Brott (Canada), Boris Garlitsky (France/Russia), Ida Kavafian (Armenia/United States), Mihaela Martin (Romania), Vera Tsu Wei Ling (China) and Kathleen Winkler (United States).
