Andras Schiff war 46 bzw. 47 Jahre alt, als er diese Werke beim Lucerne Festival spielte, Scarlatti im KKL, Kurtag im Hotel Union.

In den dreizehn Scarlatti-Sonaten mit einer Mischung aus Dur- und Moll- Tonarten spielt Schiff mit faszinierender Rhetorik, leicht und tänzerisch in den schnellen Sätzen, melancholisch oder auch sehr nachdenklich in den langsamen. In den schnellen dominiert gute Laune und bisweilen regelrechte lustige Verspieltheit. Klangphantasie und spontane Inspiration verbinden sich auf ideale Weise.

In Kurtags Játékok (Spiele) waren Kinder und der Spaß, den sie beim Spielen haben, die Inspiration. Schiffs Spiel ist bemerkenswert in der Mischung von Humor und bedeutsamer Ruhe, von stillem Erkunden und lustigem Herumalbern, von energetischer Spiellust und visionärer Tiefe.

In the thirteen Scarlatti sonatas, which feature a mixture of major and minor keys, Schiff’s performance is full of fascinating rhetoric. The fast movements are light and dance-like, while the slow ones are melancholic or even thoughtful. The fast movements are full of good humor, and at times, downright playful merriment. A lot of magination and spontaneous inspiration combine in an ideal way.

Kurtag’s Játékok (Games) were inspired by children and the fun they have while playing. Schiff’s performance is remarkable for its blend of humor and meaningful calm, quiet exploration and playful mischief, and energetic joy and visionary depth.
