American conductor Kevin McCutcheon, died in Berlin on Monday night at the age of 66 as a result of a Covid 19 infection, Deutsche Oper in Berlin announced. A native of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, he had joined the Deutsche Oper as a repetiteur under then artistic director Götz Friedrich at the age of 30. Since then he had studied roles with soloists there and was responsible for productions of children’s and youth music theater and contemporary opera.
He has also been a guest conductor with the major Berlin orchestras, and has also worked abroad.
