Based in Arnhem and Enschede, the PHION orchestra has announced that Alexei Ogrintchouk will be the new chief conductor as of season 2023-2024. The conductor and oboist Ogrintchouk has signed a contract for 3 seasons, during which he will conduct 4 productions per season. Ogrintchouk succeeds Otto Tausk, who was Phion’s first chief conductor between September 2020 and June 2022.

Since August 2005, Alexei Ogrintchouk has been first solo oboist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Before that, he held the same position with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra from the age of 20. Alexei Ogrintchouk was appointed principal study teacher at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève in 2011, succeeding Maurice Bourgue. He has been a guest lecturer at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague since 2010 and gives master classes worldwide.
