The superintendent of the Florence Opera Maggio Musicale, Alexander Pereira, has been implicated in an investigation by the local court of auditors for expenses of € 60,000 in 2021 and € 14,000 in the first four months of 2022.

An article published by La Repubblica said that Pereira has been asked for explanations regarding a series of expenses. Among these payments with the credit card of the opera house are restaurant bills in Ibiza for € 1,500, in a brewery in Florence (€ 1,400), € 3,800 in an auction house in Berlin or visits to the fishmonger, butcher, bakery … for a total amount of € 60,000 with the credit card of the theater in 2021 and € 14,000 for the first four months of the year. Pereira defends himself by calling these sums « necessary investments. »
