Alessandro Mazzamuto – er war ICMA Young Artist of the Year 2013 – beginnt den ersten Satz des 2. Klavierkonzerts von Rachmaninov als käme er aus einer Trance, sehr langsam, ehe dann auch Virtuosität ins Spiel kommt. Das ergibt ein kontrastreiches und spannendes Moderato, dessen Qualität freilich etwas unter einem zu wenig präzisen Klangbild leidet.
Die berührende Lyrik des Adagios und die anregende Nervosität des Finales erlauben es, das Spiel des Solisten zu schätzen in einer Interpretation, die in Rachmaninovs stilistischer Sphäre verankert bleibt und die nölige Ausdruckskraft erhält.
Der erste Satz des 3. Klavierkonzerts ist gut strukturiert, der langsame Satz ist schön ausgewogen und lyrisch. Das Finale klingt brillant, auch wenn die etwas mulmige Akustik nach wie vor einen wirklich durchsichtigen Sound verhindert.
Die 18. Variation aus der Paganini-Rhapsodie leitet über zu der Vocalise, die hier von Mazzamuto in der Transkription von Zoltan Kocsis sehr schön gespielt wird.
Das Andante der Cellosonate in der Transkription von Arcadi Volodos beschließt dieses ganze Rachmaninov-Album, mit dem Alessandro Mazzamuto sein Talent unter Beweis stellt.
Alessandro Mazzamuto, winner of the 2013 ICMA Young Artist of the Year Award, begins the first movement of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 as if emerging from a trance. He starts very slowly before showcasing his virtuosity. The result is an exciting moderato, though the quality suffers somewhat from a lack of precision in the sound.
The touching lyricism of the Adagio and the stimulating nervousness of the Finale allow the soloist’s performance to shine in an interpretation that remains anchored in Rachmaninov’s stylistic sphere and retains its plaintive expressiveness.
The first movement of the Piano Concerto No. 3 is well-structured, and the slow movement is beautifully balanced and lyrical. The finale sounds brilliant, even if the murky acoustics continue to prevent a transparent sound.
The eighteenth variation from the Paganini Rhapsody leads into the Vocalise, beautifully performed here by Mazzamuto in Zoltan Kocsis’s transcription.
The Andante from the Cello Sonata in E minor, transcribed by Arcadi Volodos, concludes this Rachmaninov album, on which Mazzamuto demonstrates his talent.
